Biography
Chris is a sociologist who conducts theoretical and empirical research broadly in the areas of technologies and health and has been vegan since 2016. He is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Leeds Beckett University, Co-editor of the journal Health: An Interdisciplinary Journal for the Social Study of Health, Illness and Medicine, a former convenor of the BSA Digital Sociology and Yorkshire Medical Sociology Research Groups, a contributing editor of the Cost of Living Blog and he also blogs at thisisnotasociology.blog. He has been published in academic journals such as Big Data & Society, New Media & Society, Health: An Interdisciplinary Journal for the Social Study of Health, Illness and Medicine, Technology in Society, Societies, Thesis Eleven and Health Sociology Review.
After previous work on self-tracking, corporate wellness, and social media disinformation he is currently leading a project funded by the British Academy/Leverhulme on vegan social media activism. This is a multi-modal critical discourse analysis of Instagram and TikTok focusing on text, image and audio.
